  1. The Giver says “Choices would be frightening “because some choices could lead to a disaster as it has happened before. The Giver is forbidden to share/give memories to people because the people who were born in sameness don’t know about the world that’s out there so they start to be curies. I’m not saying he has a perfect life & I’m not saying he as a horrible life I’m just saying his life is hard and painful because of the memories and secrets he not a loud to share (And the pain he takes from it). I think he’s happy with sameness just not happy about the lies in the learning and the secrets.

    1. on Q2 the memories part i meant to say The giver has the memories so if people want something they could come to the giver and the giver will get a memory to tell them what would/could happen.

  2. The giver said it would be frightening because they may make the “wrong choices’’ and hurt themselves so the police or whoever have to clean up the mess that they made, also if they do make the wrong choices than they could start bullying again, vandalism, robbing or any of the other many choices that people could make witch would lead them to being released.
2.The receiver is not allowed to share books or memories because whoever they are. They can tell other people and get released and the receiver could also give them a pain filled memory and the person who got it wouldn’t want the memory so they give it to someone ells and they don’t want it and it just keeps going on and on and on, and “it will start war”.
3.I think the giver and receiver are both not happy because they have to take “all the pain”, and they is not happy about sameness because people don’t know the real meaning of life, I also think that he doesn’t like his job because he can’t tell other people anything about his job, him being able to see colors, that there is more than three books in the world and on and on and on.

  3. Blog #8 the Giver
    1. It’s because they don’t want people to make the wrong choices. They want to protect them in a way that they can’t make wrong choices. So the government decides that they will provide them with the things they need instead of them choosing what they want. It would be easier for people to choose the right choices for them. If in life I would have to choose the right choices every time then life wouldn’t be exciting or fun. The giver said, “He might make the wrong choices.”
    Pg. 98

    2. He doesn’t share the books or the memories because if more people know then they would not be happy with sameness and would demand changes, but they would not know about the bad things that could happen with things being different. The giver doesn’t share the books with the people because maybe they won’t be ready to receive the knowledge or pain. Jonas said, “So if I have a spouse, and maybe children, I will have to hide the books from them?” Pg.102

    3. I don’t think the giver is happy with his life overall because he can’t share his experiences or his memories with anyone. Before when he had a spouse and children he couldn’t share how his day went with his wife or he couldn’t keep his books in the house where his children lived. What I’m trying to say is that the giver could never find someone that could listen to how the memories felt or the pain he discovered. “So there will be a whole part of your life which you won’t be able to share with a family. It’s hard, Jonas. It was hard for me.” Pg.103

  4. The giver says that making choices would be frightening for people because people would make the wrong choices. The giver said it would be dangerous for people to pick their own jobs. He also said it would be dangerous for people to pick their own mate. He thinks it would be fine for people to pick their own clothes, though. Quote: “He might make wrong choices.”

The receiver is forbidden to share books or memories with other people in the community because the people know nothing about the memories. And the last time it happened, people went in to chaos. He also said that him failing was a really bad thing. And people would start asking questions. Quote: “They know nothing.”

I think the Giver is happy with his life. And he is happy with sameness. He enjoys giving good memories to Jonas because it makes Jonas happy. He also enjoys giving Jonas bad memories because it takes it away from him. Quote: “I walk, I eat at mealtime. And when I am called by the committee of elders, I appear before them, to give the council advice.”

  5. 1.The giver says it might be frightening for people because they might make the wrong choice. It is safer if someone chooses the right choice for them and there is no risk. I think this because on page 98 the giver says “not safe?”
2.The receiver is forbidden to share books or memories with the community because the community might not be ready to receive the knowledge or pain. They also might start to question sameness and the rules. The giver says “I wasn’t permitted to share the books with my spouse, that’s correct.” Pg 102
3.Overall I think the giver isn’t happy with his life because although he has many happy memories he also has many painful memories he has to keep. I think it was also hard for him when he had a spouse and kids and couldn’t share a whole part of his life with them. I think the giver isn’t happy with sameness but also knows from his knowledge that in some ways it is better or safer. On page 103 the giver says “There are so many things I could tell them; things I wish they would change.”

  6. I think the giver said that because if everyone makes choices then there could be fighting or some people will not be happy. In the book the giver said “choices would be frightening.”
He is not able to people because they will not believe him or her and then they could be kicked out. In the book Jonas took lily’s comfort object, the stuffed elephant and said “did you know that once there really were elephants.”
I think the giver wishes he could have told his wife about his work but I also this he is happy because he has all these memories good and bad. I think he want not as much sameness. The giver chuckled “no, there’s no rule against it. And I did have a spouse.”

  7. 1. I think he means that when those people wanted hills and snow that it would be dangerous and he did not want that happening to the other people in the community.
    2. He is not allowed because he does not want any people in the community to know about the past and he did not want anyone to know how pain or strong feelings are like.
    3. I think his life is pretty lonely for him and I think he is happy with sameness.

  8. • “He might make the wrong choices” page 98. He could make the choice of not having sameness and that could lead to war. “They don’t want to hear about pain” page 112. It would be frightening for people because the giver could make the wrong choice and put the community at risk. “Why can’t we just apply for a change of rules” page 113. They can’t apply for a change of rules.
    • “This room’s wall was completely covered in books” page 74. The receiver cannot share memories or books with anyone in the community because they could want to change the rules. “Did you know there once really were elephants” page 101. Jonas is not supposed to talk about his training with anyone or try to give anyone the memories. “What causes you pain” page 107. Jones and the giver are not allowed to show pain or tell people what pain is.
    • I think he is happy with his life but I don’t think he is happy with sameness. “Don’t you have a spouse? Can you apply for one.” Page 101. “No, there’s no rule against it.” Page 101. I don’t think the giver wants a spouse. I think the giver is happy to have some memories like the good ones are pleasant but I don’t think he is happy to have the bad ones. ~Jesica

  9. 1. The giver says that making choices would be frightening for people because if someone makes the wrong choice people could bully them or vandalize there house or even bully people in their family unit. My proof is the giver said “He might make the wrong choice.”
    2. The receiver is forbidden to share books or memories because when they start talking they will say like “I went sail boating on a lake!” and people would get confused then they would find who shared the memories with them and they will be released and sometimes giving a memory to someone doesn’t work like when Jonas did to Lily and his dad, he hurt Lily,” Jonas, you’re hurting me with your hand.”
    3. I think the Giver is happy with his life because he is very important to the community, because if anything happens, the community won’t know what to do so they will see the giver, soon to be Jonas, and ask what they should do. I think the Giver was happy with his life but found it hard to not be able to tell anyone about the pain and feelings. Pg 103 “So there will be a whole part of your life which you won’t be able to share with a family. It’s hard, Jonas. It was hard for me.”

  10. 1. I think the giver said that having choices would be dangerous because what if you made a wrong choice then something might go wrong like if you chose the wrong job and you didn’t like it(Quote from the book)“We really need to protect people from wrong choices”.
    2. Because if he does maybe the community will go to kayos and then everybody will want hills and weather and snow live life the way it’s supposed to be.
    3. I’m not saying he has a perfect life & I’m not saying the giver has a horrible life I’m just saying his life is hard and painful because of the memories and secrets he not allowed to share (And the pain he takes from it). I think he’s happy with sameness just not happy about the lies in the learning and the secrets.

  11. 1. The giver said making choices may be frightening for people because they could make the wrong choices. “He might make wrong choices”, said the giver. p#113
    2. The receiver is forbidden to share books or memories because people might like something in the book so they would change sameness. “There must of bin hundreds perhaps thousands of books.”P#74.
    3. I don’t think he is happy with sameness because he has to hold all the pain for people and he can’t talk about it or give memories to anyone except the next receiver.”Imp in pain today.”P#106.

  12. 1. The giver said it would be frightening because if people would start making their own choices the community would be way different. People would hurt themselves or do wrong things and maybe get released because there are making their own dictions. Some people in the community would like making their own decisions and some wouldn’t. Some people might get really weird with making their own choices maybe they would leave the community. Some people might go crazy because they aren’t being watched anymore. “But it will hurt” Jonas said “it will hurt terribly” the giver agreed. That’s a paragraph
    2. The receiver forbidden Jonas to give memories to anyone because first of all no one would believe him or because if he tried to give someone the memory of color no one would be able to see the colors because everyone is colorblind except for the receivers. Jonas has been giving Gabe/Gabriel memories when Gabe is sleeping and the Giver or the old receiver doesn’t want Jonas doing that because when Gabe grows up he will tell everyone about those memories and then Jonas will get in trouble for sharing those memories with someone else. Jonas is also not allowed to tell anyone about the books that the Giver shows Jonas because everyone in the community only thinks there are 3 books in the community the dictionary, the atlas, and the map.
    3. I think the Giver is happy with his life sometimes. Sometimes when Jonas would go to work with the Giver he would be in a bad mood or unhappy but then on the first day the Giver was really nice. So I would say the Giver is happy with his life just sometimes he is in a bad mood to Jonas. I don’t think the Giver likes sameness because the Giver likes the memories that he shares with Jonas but because there is sameness the Giver and Jonas cant share any memories.

  13. 1. Maybe, the giver said that people making choices for people would be frightening because on page 98 Jonas says, “But what if we hold one toy that’s bright red and one that’s bright yellow he could choose”. Then, the giver replies, “What if he makes the wrong decision. Also, on page 112 when the giver said that he didn’t know that the pilot was lost I figured out that if other people don’t have wisdom they could’ve shot down the plane and the pilot would’ve died. And on page 113 the giver says that everybody would be burdened and pained. If I was the receiver I would be scared out of my mind to find out if I was in a war or robbed or kidnapped.
    2. The receiver is banned from showing anyone in the community the books because on page 74 Jonas says that there are only three books inside his dwelling. So if other people saw the books they could use the books to find out all of the horrible memories or the best ones. And then the people from the community could end up having a war because they don’t like sameness. Also, on page 101-104 the giver reminds Jonas that he can’t tell anyone about the training and also he can’t tell anyone about the books, and that means that if I were to talk to my mum or dad or brother or sister I always use colors or book references, but I couldn’t tell anybody about my training so it would be really difficult for me to do that. Another reason is that the giver says that when the previous receiver failed all of the memories went to the community.
    3. When I think about the rules for the receiver I think sometimes the giver feels so isolated from the whole community because he can’t tell anyone about his training he can’t really say anything, but for me whenever I’m scared I talk about it. With his memories he’s been starving, in war and all kinds of other horrible experiences. But with a good balance of good memories like bunnies, cake rollercoaster’s, birthdays and Christmas I think he makes it out okay. I think the giver is happy with his life because when Jonas says, “I see you taking walks” I think that the giver is happy with his life. I think the giver feels mixed emotions about sameness.

  14. 1. The giver says making chooses would be frightening for people because it’s safer for the people in the community. I found this on page 99 it says we really have to protect people from wrong choices. It’s safer.
    2. The receiver is forbidden to share books or memories with the community because of sameness.
    3. No the giver would not be happy because of all the Paine of the memories it would be hard to go throw.

  15. •The reason why the Giver said that making choices would be frightening for people because it can lead to war or something that becomes a disaster. The giver also gave the memory of war to Jonas so he doesn’t like war either. I think Jonas wants to live in the world we live right now because he wants everyone to see colours and memories, but the giver told Jonas “But then everyone would be burdened and pained” and also told him that they take pills to get rid of feelings. So Jonas couldn’t do anything to change the community.

•The Receiver is forbidden to share books or memories with other people in the community because if the receiver shares the memory pains, people in the community would take pills to get rid of that memory.

•I think the Giver is not happy with his life from painful memories and Rosemary’s release. I don’t think he is happy with sameness because then nobody knows about feelings, no colour and no memories from the past.

  16. 1.The Giver says making choices would be freighting the people would make wrong choices. People would not listen and probably go in different directions. And the people would get released and do whatever they want. They would probably attack and go crazy and heart their families. My proof is that the giver sail “He might make the wrong choices.
2.The receiver is forbidden to share the memories and the books with people because everyone will think the receiver is making it up. Jonas gave Gabe memories when Gabe was sleeping and the giver dose not wants that. Jonas is not allowed to give books or tell anyone about them. Maybe if someone might find a book and read it they will be different they would not be like “sameness” like the other people. And one other reason why Jonas is not allowed to share the books in the community because if they read they might change the rule. Pg 101
3.I think the giver is can be happy with his life and cannot because he can have great memories and he can have terrible memories. Sometimes when Jonas goes to work he sometimes in a happy mood and a bad mood. And I bet he does not like being “sameness” because he probably doesn’t want to be like everybody. I would say the giver is living a bad and good life he’s just grumpy when Jonas is with him. I found this on P# 106

  17. 1. The giver says it might be frightening for people to make their own choices, so the leader chooses all the choices instead of what they want. The giver wants to protect the people from making wrong choices. I think it would be easier if the people could make their own choices. The giver said, “he might make wrong choices”.Pg.98.If my life paths were chosen by the community my life wouldn’t be fun anymore.
    2. The receiver is not allowed to share any memories and books with the community because the people know nothing about the memories. If they did find out about the memories the whole community would go into war. If the receiver fails all those memories go back to the community. After that people would start getting suspicions. “They know nothing”.
    3. If I was the giver I would hate those rules because a lot of the times something cool happens I like to tell people don’t know if the giver likes sameness or not because he can go to the place in charge and say I don’t want sameness anymore. Pg103.Giver said, “it’s hard Jonas it was hard for me”. I f I was the giver I would like and dislike the memories I would like the good memories, but not the painful memories. If I was the giver I wouldn’t be happy because I would be so lonely and you just sit there for your whole life a work.

  18. • The giver says that making choices would be frightening for some people because if someone made a choice of running away or bullying someone it would be bad. Proof, the giver said “He might make the wrong choice.”
    • The Giver is forbidden to share books or memories with other people in the community because of the sameness they have.
    • No I don’t think the giver is happy with his life because he has to go through a lot of pain with the memories. No I don’t think he’s happy with sameness because they don’t get to see the world or feel anything.
