Becky chose to runaway from Craig and her mother in order to "save" Brighteyes. She had to endure all sorts of hardships, and, in the end, found herself in hostpital and seriously injured. She was lucky that Brighteyes was "adopted" by another, kind, person; it could have been far worse.

1.Instead of Becky running away to “save” Brighteyes, she could have told her mom to divorce Craig and move away or tell the police that Craig has someone taking the dogs that can’t run and having them getting killed by the guy that comes to pick up the dogs or giving Brighteyes away.

Instead of running away to try to save Brighteyes Becky could have told her mom about what really happened to the dogs after they couldn't race any more.

Said to Craig don’t kill bright eyes I love him so much I will do anything for bright eyes to stay with me or she could have told her mom what really happened to the dog when they cant race. She could have taken the dogs and hid them from Craig so they would have not been killed by the land rover.
