- Catherine’s says, “Mom doesn’t understand how not everyone is on David’s side.” What might it mean to be “on David’s side”? Why wouldn’t people be “on his side”?
- On page 43, Catherine wonders how it would feel, “…to have to wait for someone to make a word before I could use it. And to have all my words lying out in the open, complete strangers able to walk by and see everything that mattered to me, without even knowing my name.” Imagine you were Jason. How would you feel?
- What fears does Catherine have when she is around Jason? Do you think her fears are reasonable? How might you help her to get over her fears if you were her friend?
Two of the reasons would be that Catherine likes going is that David is not bothering her and she gets her mom all to herself what she normally does not get because David gets all the attention of their mother and that someone else is taking care of David for a change because she normally has to take care of David because their mom is busy. Another reason is that she and her mom could go shopping and go to the park sometimes if they are lucky but normally they have to stay in the clinic. I love spending time with my dad. I loved it when we went on California screaming in Disney land over 15 times because that was very fun to be with him and do that. It is special to me just to be with him and not have to really worry about anything. Jason is a person who goes to the same clinic has David. He is nice but I think that he gets frustrated that he cannot speak and have to use the cards but he is good at accepting the fact that he has to use them. I think it helps her to draw because then she can get her mind off of everything and just focus on her drawing. I love to read in my spare time I like thinking that I am one of the characters in the book that I am reading. I think she means not on David’s side by saying that some people do not like David. I think that people are not on his side because they scare him. If I was Jason I would be frustrated that everyone could see what I was feeling. I think her fears are reasonable fears because I think that I would feel those too. If I was her friend I would go see Jason with her and have a conversation with him so that she would know that he is not that bad. And then I would help her to realize that people do not have to be able to talk to be your friend and that Jason could be nice if she tried to make friends with him and if she did not really get that I would just try to help her anyway possible. - Jaden

ReplyDelete2. I am fond of my mom because we always have fun together. Once me and my mom went to the museum in Victoria and we got lost but I found were it was. And we had a fun time, after we went out for dinner ( in Nanaimo ) .
3. Jason is a patient at the same occupational therapy centre that David goes to, and he has a book full of pictures and labels of sayings and things and he cannot speak.
4. She likes to draw because it calms her down and gets her mind off bad stuff. I like to listen to music and going on bike rides.
5. Everyone pays attention to David and not Catherine. And everyone does everything for him.
6. I would feel trapped like I only now these words and if someone asked me something and I didn’t know the word I would feel sad.
7. Her fear is she is scared Jason or his mom will get mad at her. I would tell her he will not get mad and you are fine.

ReplyDeleteI enjoy spending time with my friend, and I don’t think I should say his name. My fondest memory with him is when we first met. The time alone is special to me because he goes to a different school, so I don’t see him that often.
Jason is a boy who can’t speak or walk, so he needs a wheelchair and a book with cards he can point to. Jason is sad a lot, nice, and can’t do a whole lot by himself.
Drawing helps Catherine by relaxing her and distracting her. The activities I do in my spare time when I can are skating and soccer.
It might mean helping David when she says on David’s side. People wouldn’t be on his side because they’re mean.
I would feel very sad, and a little mad, if I was Jason.
The fears Catherine has around Jason are fear that he doesn’t like her, she will do something to upset him, and she will embarrass herself. I think her fears are reasonable. I would help her get over her fears by talking to her about it.

I really like spending time with my mom, a fond moment of mine is when me and my mom went out to go for a walk and after a long time we realized we were lost then after 30 minutes of walking we found a secret passage way to our house! That moment is special to me because I had fun spending time with my mom.

I love hanging out with my Maddy because she’s so happy all the time. The best time when I was with her when we were done soccer and, we had her favorite food which was a muffin. Jason also can’t walk and, he’s in a wheelchair and he always imagines himself running around. Drawing makes Catherine feel better. In my spare time I love to play soccer, and dance. I would help Catherine by telling her to keep talking with Jason and people might stop staring when Catherine is around Jason.

ReplyDelete2. I like spending time with my friend Jake, my fondest memory with him was when me and him made an awesome video of being on his trampoline, It is special hanging out with him because he likes doing the things I do.

4. Drawing helps Catherin express herself, I like to play and watch hockey in my spare time.
5.To be on Davids side you might also have special needs or like the same things he likes.
6. If I was Jason I would feel insecure thinking that whoever you think is your friend may not even like you.
